This one was a full process job. We partnered with Nassau Pools on a pool deck replacement that required us to handle everything from the ground up - literally. Before a single yard of concrete got poured, the existing surface had to be cleared, the subbase prepped, and the whole area cleaned up properly. That groundwork is what most people never see, but it's what separates a deck that lasts from one that starts cracking in two seasons.
Once the old material was out, we laid a rebar grid across the entire deck area and got the vapor barrier down before the pour. That steel reinforcement is what gives the slab its long-term strength. Concrete without proper rebar support can shift, crack, and heave - especially around a pool where the ground sees constant moisture. We don't skip that step.
The pour itself went across a large section of the pool surround, including a curved section along the side that required some careful formwork. Getting clean edges on a curved layout takes more attention than a straight run, but the finished result is worth it. A broom finish on the surface keeps it slip-resistant - which matters around any pool deck.
After the pour, the crew stayed on it. Cleanup, detail work along the pool coping, making sure everything tied in correctly to the existing flatwork. That's what we mean when we say every step matters. The concrete itself is just one part of it - how you prep, how you finish, and how you wrap up the job is what actually defines the quality of the work.
