This backyard in Rogers had nothing going on outside - just a back door with a basic drop to the ground and a wide open lawn. No usable space, no place to set up furniture, nothing. That's exactly the kind of blank slate we love working with.
We went with Monterey Ashlar stamped concrete in Stony Isle for the main field - a stone-look pattern that's sharp up close and holds up incredibly well over time. The Midnight Grey border wraps the entire perimeter and ties it all together. The matching stamped steps off the back door were built from the ground up using formed wood framing and rebar, then poured and stamped to blend seamlessly with the rest of the patio. Everything was planned and formed before a single yard of concrete was placed.
That's actually one of the biggest things that separates a quality stamped concrete job from a sloppy one - the prep work. The forming, the steel reinforcement, the curved edge layout - all of that has to be done right before the pour ever happens. If the foundation isn't solid, it doesn't matter how good the stamp looks on day one.
What you end up with is a surface that genuinely looks like natural stone but doesn't require the upkeep that natural stone demands. No weeds pushing through joints, no pavers shifting over time, no resetting needed after a hard Minnesota winter. Just a clean, durable patio that holds its look year after year.
The curved layout gives the space a custom feel that a straight rectangular pad just can't match. It softens the edge between the concrete and the lawn and makes the whole backyard feel intentional. This is the kind of work we take seriously on every job - details included.
